Easily accessible on the Trans Canada Hwy (#1) and from Hwy 97 B, Salmon Arm is centrally located in south central British Columbia’s Shuswap region. Situated centrally between Vancouver BC and Calgary Alberta Salmon Arm is a short 106 km east of Kamloops, or 104 km west of Revelstoke on the Trans Canada Highway. From any direction, whether by car or bus, you will enjoy the scenic trip and be pleasantly surprised with your surroundings as you arrive in this city on the edges of the vast Shuswap Lake.

The City of Salmon Arm is nestled on the shores of the Shuswap Lake and is home to approximately 17,000 residents.  As the commercial hub for the Shuswap region, Salmon Arm has an increasingly diverse local economy and offers eclectic variety to community residents and visitors alike. With over 300 downtown based businesses, an abundance of recreational pursuits and a strong and growing arts and culture community there really is something for everyone to discover, explore and enjoy in Salmon Arm. With a strong public school system, Salmon Arm is home to a range of educational options and is also home to the Shuswap Campus of Okanagan College.

Salmon Arm has a mild, yet distinct four season climate, and superior year-round recreational amenities. The average July high in Salmon Arm is 27ºC while in January the average day time temperature sits near -5ºC. During the mid summer months, the Shuswap Lake boasts and impressive 20ºC water temperature!


Lake Culture:

Surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, Salmon Arm is home to a diverse and growing arts, culture and entertainment community. From free downtown music series (Wednesdays on the Wharf – WOW, Lunch Box Stage performances at the Ross Street stage) to the fine art-based exhibits showcased at the Salmon Arm Gallery of Art (SAGA) and on to local festivals and events – there is so much to experience and enjoy.


Recreation:

Downtown Salmon Arm offers easy access to Shuswap Lake – You can easily launch your boat from the free public boat launch at Marine Park, or you can dock and walk to downtown from the Wharf.
Salmon Arm and the Shuswap are increasingly becoming known for the exceptional trail system which links many of our neighbourhoods and communities together. The Shuswap Trails are rated on difficulty levels and are suitable for the casual hiker to the extreme adventure seeking mountain biker.
While in Downtown Salmon Arm, be sure to check out exceptional bird watching opportunities, which can be found on the Harbourfront area, near the wharf. Over 200 different bird species travelling through or calling the area home – to learn more about bird watching in Salmon Arm, you will most certainly want to visit the Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society, which is also located in the Harbourfront area of Downtown Salmon Arm.
The City of Salmon Arm is home to 14 parks, a community-based aquatic centre, an indoor hockey arena, curling club and various other sports and recreational clubs and groups. In the surrounding area, five golf courses offer a range of exceptional golfing during the warm months, and the nearby Larch Hills Nordic Society offers access to exceptional cross country skiing trails.
